About the Show
BEYOND THE PALE has aired on WBAI/New York, 99.5 FM, part of the Pacifica Radio Network, since 1995. The program, which currently airs Sundays from noon to 1 p.m., explores local, national and international political debate and analysis from a Jewish perspective. We also bring listeners the voices and sounds of contemporary Jewish culture, from film critics to filmmakers, novelists, poets and musicians. BEYOND THE PALE is the only Jewish program on radio or television devoted to bringing a left perspective to political and cultural debates. In politically reactionary times like these, when most major Jewish organizations align themselves with the conservative forces that currently dominate local and national politics, BEYOND THE PALE brings audiences the critical analysis and vision for social change that are the proud legacy of Jewish radicalism. BEYOND THE PALE is produced with the support of Jews for Racial and Economic Justice (JFREJ).
JEWS FOR RACIAL AND ECONOMIC JUSTICE is a New York City-based organization that mobilizes the Jewish community to support key social justice struggles in the city, such as opposing racial violence and economic exploitation and defending the social safety net.
WBAI is listener-supported community radio station commmitted to the principles of peace and social justice. WBAI, which broadcasts to the tri-state area, has been affiliated with the Pacifica network since 1960.
PACIFICA itself was founded in 1949 by Lew Hill, who called for radio that would foster understanding among nations and individuals, encourage creativity, and promote innovative, uncensored news. The network now has five radio stations and 50 affiliates.
