    Of some 3,000 US volunteers in the fight against fascism in Spain, a third came from New York City, and more than a quarter of all volunteers were killed in action. A new exhibit at the Museum of the City of New York explores their role. Up through August 12, 2007.

    For decades, Palestinian citizens of Israel have been calling for equality in government funding and an end to discrimination, most recently in a landmark "Future Vision" document issued by the heads of Arab local authorities in Israel. The report has generated controversy for refering to Israel as an "ethnocracy" and for proposing that Israel be a state of all of its citizens.

    Palestinian member of the Israeli Knesset Azmi Bishara, founder of the National Democratic Assembly Party, has long called for Israel to be a state of all its citizens and was an outspoken critic of the recent Israeli war on Lebanon. Now he faces charges, not yet unsealed in their details, of aiding the enemy during time of war. It is the third time he has become the target of Israeli prosecutors.
