Violence erupts between Jewish and Palestinian communities in the ancient port city of Akko (Acre); Paul Shapiro's new CD, Essen, a tribute to Yiddish jazz; and likely Democratic supporters get purged from the voter rolls.

    On October 9th, Yom Kippur, a vehicle driven by a Palestinian residenty of Akko was stoned was he drove through a predominently Jewish neighborhood of this mixed city.  A rumor that the driver had been killed spread quickly and hundreds of Arab residents arrived at the scene.  The incident quickly developed into several days of rioting involving hundreds of people from both communities.

    Journalist Zoher Bahalul explains to us why he believes  "this was an inevitable clash."
