    Richard Breitman is the co-author (with Norman J.W.Goda) of Hitler's Shadow: Nazi War Criminals, U.S. Intelligence and the Cold War.  He is a Professor of History at American University in Washington DC.  He is the author (with Norman J. W. Goda, and Timothy Naftali) of U.S. Intelligence and the Nazis, Washington, D. C.: The National Archives Trust Fund for the Nazi War Criminals Records Interagency Working Group, 2004.

    In December 2010, the National Archives released to Congress a new report on Nazi War Crimes: Hitler’s Shadow: Nazi War Criminals, U.S. Intelligence, and the Cold War. The report, based on findings from newly-declassified decades-old Army and CIA records, reveals how Cold War priorities led the U.S. to protect and use Nazi war criminals in the years following World War II. Beyond the Pale talks about some of the findings with Richard Breitman, who was a member of the Nazi War Criminals Interagency Working Group (IWG).
