It's is with great sorrow that Beyond the Pale notes the passing of Adrienne Cooper, a luminous vocal artist, interpreter of Yiddish song and social justice activist.  The music on today's show will be from a few of her many recordings.

And we'll re-broadcast a portion of Esther Kaplan's interview with Joe Sacco about Footnotes in Gaza, a graphic novel about the little known killings of hundreds of Palestinians by Israeli soldiers during the 1956 Suez crisis.
